For this reader, the origin of “hey” as a greeting is not the Bronx nor Jamaica, but somewhere closer to home

Sir, Carol Midgley complains (Magazine, July 2) about the use of “Hey” as a greeting. Its origin, however, is not, as she mentions, the Bronx or Jamaica. In my family’s case it stems directly from watching the Swedish language version of Wallander.
