Koeman: We showed Davies errors he made

Despite Everton’s 4-0 rout of Manchester City, Tom Davies has been shown clips of the mistakes he made in last weekend’s game as manager Ronald Koeman attempts to keep the teenager grounded.

Davies shot to prominence when he capped an eye-catching display with his first goal for the club on Sunday.

The level-headed 18-year-old is unlikely to become intoxicated on his own publicity, but that has not stopped Koeman hammering home the point.

“He needs to deal with that attention but he is a young player who took his chance in the first team,” Koeman said. “If they are not focused because they think they are the big men at Everton, we will do something to put their two feet on the ground.

“We speak about that with him and even this week we show him not good clips out of last week to show him that it wasn’t the ‘perfect one’, but he is a good boy and a really hard-working player.”

Meanwhile, Nigeria are hoping to entice Ademola Lookman, who scored on his Everton debut against City, away from England. The 19-year-old was born in London, but can play for the African country through his parents.

Lookman, signed from Charlton Athletic earlier this month, has played for England at under-19 and under-20 levels, but can switch national allegiances because he has not yet played for the senior side competitively.

“He has Nigerian parents and we’d need to speak to him first,” a Nigeria Football Federation official said.
