Jürgen Klopp believes he is “the perfect solution” to the problems Liverpool are facing in rejoining European football’s elite but insists that the days of any club dominating the English game are over.
The Liverpool manager has been assured that every penny the club generates will be ploughed “back into the team”. They announced record annual revenues of £297.9 million and a pre-tax profit of £60 million.
On the challenge facing him, Klopp said: “I don’t know what other names FSG would have taken but I think I am a really perfect solution. I like this. I am patient enough to work for the moment and then we can change things.”
He warned, though: “ Nobody can win the league five or six years in a row because the financial potential of all the teams is too big.”
Liverpool face Manchester City tonight three days after their Capital One Cup final defeat. Manuel Pellegrini hit out at the Liverpool fans who booed Raheem Sterling. “Players that cannot play in difficult environments will never be a top player,” he said. “I don’t have any worries. We’ll wait and see what the starting XI is, but one player I’m sure will start is Sterling.”
