Leeds Rhinos demonstrated their champion qualities yesterday with an outstanding 37-30 defeat of second-placed Warrington Wolves in the Engage Super League, who extended their run without success this season against the top trio of Wigan Warriors, St Helens and Leeds.

Badly hit by injuries and beaten by Crusaders last week, Leeds traded six tries apiece with Warrington at the Halliwell Jones Stadium and were indebted to the immaculate kicking of Kevin Sinfield, their captain, who landed all six of his goal attempts and a 40-metre dropped goal in the 75th minute to seal victory.

Leeds had trailed 20-12 at half-time to tries by Matt King, Chris Hicks (two) and Ryan Atkins. However, Lee Briers missed three conversions for the home team, who succumbed to tries by Keith Senior and Greg Eastwood before the break and were architects of their own downfall in the second half. Scott Donald, Danny Buderus and Ryan Hall scored from penalties conceded by Warrington and Danny McGuire went over for a conclusive touchdown.
