Sir, If you accidentally spill ketchup on someone’s trousers (report, June 22) the courteous thing to do is to offer to pay for the damage and not to wait to be asked. The fact that the other person may earn £80,000 per year to your £25,000 is irrelevant. It is the small, common courtesies that make for a civilised society and I know of many people on incomes far below £25,000 per year who act accordingly.
