This year Katz Partners represented the husband in a case involving a substantial inheritance received during a marriage. The court addressed the classification and division of assets worth more than £100 million and the wife accepted that her husband could not benefit from a further £50 million held in offshore trusts.

The firm also represented another husband in a case focused on the fairness of applying the equal sharing principle to a short marriage. While adopting the presumption that wealth generated during a settled relationship should be shared, the judge also decided substantially to discount the value of the client’s business interests to reflect pandemic-induced uncertainty.
