Jon Dibben and Chris Latham claimed bronze medals for Great Britain at the European Track Cycling Championships in Switzerland.

Dibben pulled off a fine showing in the points race to take an unlikely third in the omnium, while Latham rode smartly in the elimination race to secure his own podium finish.

“I certainly came looking for a medal, maybe a win, but going into the points race a medal was almost a long shot,” Dibben said. “I really had to race well and get lucky, which I did, so pretty happy in the end.”

Andy Tennant finished fifth in the individual pursuit and Katy Marchant came fourth in the 500 metres time-trial.

But Sunday could bring more success for Laura Trott, who takes an overnight lead into the final day of the women’s omnium following wins in the elimination race and individual pursuit as well as a second in the scratch race. Trott, the Olympic and Commonwealth champion, has already won double gold in the team pursuit and scratch race.
