John Buchanan to help England’s Ashes preparations

John Buchanan, the former Australia coach, will visit England at the end of the month to help the side with their Ashes preparations.

The 56-year-old is poised to have a meeting with Andy Flower, the England Coach, and the rest of the backroom staff in the build-up to the first Test in Cardiff on July 8.

Buchanan, who left his job as Australia coach following their 2007 World Cup success, has already had one meeting with England’s backroom team several weeks ago following the final one-day international against West Indies in Birmingham.

After coaching Kolkata Knight Riders in the second season of the IPL, Buchanan has been asked to work with England’s player development programme, principally the under-16s, under-19s and the England Lions and will be based primarily at the National Performance Centre in Loughborough.

But with the Lions having a four-day fixture against Australia in Worcester starting on July 1, there is every chance he will have an input into their preparation for the touring side’s final match before the start of the Ashes.
