The DJ Gilles Peterson has a touch of the jazz buff about him, as he revealed on the first instalment of rarities from the 1960s and 1970s. If less compelling, the follow-up has undeniable curiosity value, especially in the light it casts on the early careers of the two Michaels, Garrick and Westbrook. The guitarist Amancio D’Silva’s A Street in Bombay sounds remarkably fresh, while Tubby Hayes and Paul Gonsalves lead the romp through Don’t Fall off the Bridge. If you want to hear more, a batch of albums — among them Garrick’s disc Troppo — is being reissued to accompany Peterson’s time-travelling exploits. Three stars
