It’s been wizard

After a decade, the final Harry Potter film premieres in London tonight. How do you, the ‘Harry Potter generation’, feel about it?

Yann Atzmon, 10, Anson Primary School, London I was born the year the first film came out and it’s just amazing to look at its gigantic impact on culture. That’s what I like about growing up in the Harry Potter generation — it’s a common ground all over the world. It doesn’t matter whether you’re rich or poor, tough or weak, black or white, everyone knows Harry Potter.

Callum Bates, 13, Warlingham School, Surrey I have been in some tricky situations — for example, being bullied — that relate to the troubles of Harry, Ron and Hermione. Some of my most treasured quotations are from the Harry Potter films, such as: “It takes a great deal of courage to stand up to your enemies, but a great deal more to stand up to your friends”.

Lewis Rogers, 17, Isambard Community School, Swindon First of all, Harry Potter made me feel so much better about wearing glasses! Also, the fact that the films are British is fantastic, because most of the films I grew up with were American. They have inspired me to become a film-maker.

Liam Stoddart, 11, Sylvester Primary School, Liverpool Watching Potter films taught me to stay by my friends’ sides through thick and thin — and never to act like Malfoy, bullying people who may be weaker than you.

Shauna Thompson, 9, Friars Grove School, Colchester I’m sad that this film is the last: I’ll miss the suspense. Harry Potter taught me that sticking together and thinking things through is the right way to tackle big problems.

Ben Angus, 13, The Boswells School, Chelmsford Harry Potter has played a massive part in my life and showed me that anyone, whether they have magic powers or not, can face their fears and come out on top.

Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) The fact that it’s coming to an end is very sad. We’ve been together for a decade and we’ve all seen each other grow up — literally, from being ten years old to being adults, so we are like a big family and we’ll always have that in common.

Director David Yates I’m going to miss the scale of it because I’ll probably never make anything again that has this kind of following and fandom. If I could put it in a box and take it home, that would be really cool.
