Italy’s favourite shoes

Casual footwear with an Italian stamp, Mr Porter meets Officine Générale, and the Savile Row Company cuts it fine

Brand watch: Superga
We think of Superga as a brand for this decade, but no, it was founded in 1911 by one Walter Martiny, who started producing shoes with vulcanised rubber soles in Turin.

It was here that the Superga 2750 style was created as “the people’s shoes of Italy” (now the company’s slogan). Spin-off styles have been sported by the likes of Jack Guinness and Charlie Casely-Hayford. The new men’s collection includes the 2750 Peebleleam in rice grain calfskin leather (right), £60, and the 2750 Crtwoolm in a blend of vicuna, cashmere and wool, £55 (superga.co.uk).

Mr Porter has teamed up with Parisian label Officine Générale for a new, exclusive, capsule collection. Guided by “a great ethical sense and fair prices”, the pieces are made in Europe and include this retro-inspired cotton polka-dot shirt, £195, and the Auguste Grandad-Collar selvedge cotton shirt, £180 (mrporter.com).

Fine cuts
The Savile Row Company has introduced 16 new British fabrics for suiting. Buying them in bulk has also made its made-to-measure suits cheaper – this one is in 100 per cent 110s wool, £800 (savilerowco.com).

5 reasons why we love... OPPO PM-3 closed-back planar magnetic headphones

1. Their double-sided, aluminium, seven-layer diaphragm produces a crisp sound with hardly any distortion. 2. The closed-back ’phones are noise-cancelling … 3. … and they have a higher than usual 102db sensitivity. 4. A choice of portable leads means you can use them with any source. 5. At 320g, they are more lightweight than most planar magnetic headphones (£349.99; oppodigital.co.uk).
