Irwin Mitchell has evolved considerably since it began life in 1912 as a firm specialising in criminal law and acting for gangsters caught up in Sheffield’s underworld battles.

It now markets itself as one of the country’s most prominent firms for handling complex personal injury claims. It ran a campaign on behalf of mesothelioma victims to remove asbestos from public buildings, which was discussed in parliament this year.

The firm represents UK families of those killed in the Boeing 737 Max crash in Africa and relatives affected by the crimes of the convicted serial killer Lucy Letby.

Earlier this year it advised on the administration of True North Brew Co and gave planning advice to Millwall Football Club.

The firm also says it has one of the UK’s largest family law and private client teams and recently expanded its financial planning and asset management team with acquisitions in Leeds and Cheshire.
