India beat Pakistan in dramatic one dayer

Virat Kohli smashes 183 in nail-biting run chase as India win by six wickets in Asia Cup match at Mirpur

INDIA pulled off a sensational Asia Cup win against Pakistan when they chased down a target of 330 with 13 balls to spare.

Virat Kohli hit a career-best 183 in 211 balls and was well supported by Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma as India won by six wickets in a tense finish.

The result put Pakistan through to the final, while India's fate depends on the match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

Openers Mohammad Hafeez and Nasir Jamshed both hit centuries as Pakistan batted first in the day-night match in Mirpur.

The two batsmen, who set up Pakistan's victory against Bangladesh a week ago, put on 224 for the first wicket in the fifth match of the tournament.

Jamshed top-scored with 112 before he was caught by Irfan Pathan off the bowling of Ravichandran Ashwintaking in the 36th over.

Hafeez went in the following over for 105, leg before to Ashok Dinda, but Younis Khan kept up the momentum alongside Umar Akmal.

Younis made 52 from 34 balls and Akmal 28 from 24, both falling victim to Praveen Kumar, as Pakistan reached 329 for six after their 50 overs.

India's reply began in dismal fashion as Gautam Gambhir was trapped leg-before by Hafeez without a run on the board.

Tendulkar, buoyed by his 100th century last week, was soon accumulating runs at one end while Virat Kohli did the same at the other. Pakistan's bowlers struggled to make an impression as the pair put on a century stand that put the balance of the match on an even keel.

Saeed Ajmal eventually dismissed Tendulkar for 52 in the 20th over with the score on 133, but Kohli continued to score heavily and reached his century in 97 balls.

Sharma played more cautiously than Kohli as their partnership frustrated the Pakistan bowlers. Sharma eventually went for 68 at 305 for three, which set up a thrilling finale.

Kohli fell at last, the second victim of Umar Gul, but by then the match was all but won. MS Dhoni hit the runs that closed it out as India made 330 for four in 47.5 overs.

"Kohli was brilliant," said Dhoni. "Once you cross 300 it's difficult irrespective of how flat the pitch is, we did it in Hobart. We've got the talent in the bowling department also. It's about how you handle pressure, they will learn from games like these."
