HOT VEST FOR COLD BIKERS
Motorbike riders will already have noticed the chillier weather, heralding the onset of autumn. Being warm on
a bike is not only more comfortable, it’s safer and aids concentration, so the new BMW Heated Vest will be of interest. It works in a similar way to an electric blanket, connecting to the bike’s 12V battery, and can be worn with virtually any style of jacket. Drawing a mere 3.5 amps, it requires less power than most headlamp bulbs. The carbon fibre fabric gives a uniform distribution of heat, and a thin layer of aluminium sprayed onto the outside of the vest aids insulation. It retails at £185. KNOWING WHEN YOU NEED NEW BRAKES
Changing brake discs is a vital part of regular vehicle maintenance, especially on high-performance cars. But knowing when it’s necessary is an inexact science. Italian brake specialist Brembo has introduced the Easy Check disc that has wear indicators - two small holes of different depths in the face of the disc visible behind the wheel. When the first hole disappears, 80% of the disc surface has been worn out. When the second disappears, the disc needs immediate replacement. Price varies from car to car, but expect to pay about 10% more than for conventional discs. Find your nearest supplier on 01933 357 391 (www.brembo.com).
