Borussia Mönchengladbach, the German club, believe that they have won the race to sign Junior Hoilett, the winger who is out of contract at Blackburn Rovers this summer. Mönchengladbach will have to pay a training fee of about £650,000 as Hoilett is under 23. They have offered Hoilett, who is thought to have undergone a medical, a four-year contract. Hoilett, who was wanted by Tottenham Hotspur, had spells on loan at Paderborn and St Pauli, both German clubs, because he could not get a work permit before he signed a professional contract with Blackburn in 2009. His brother Jaineil, plays in Germany for Mainz.
Arsenal plan for Barcelona friendly
Arsenal and Barcelona are in talks about the possibility of a pre-season friendly on August 12 as part of the agreement negotiated when Cesc Fàbregas moved to the Catalan club last summer. Arsène Wenger’s side will go on tour to Malaysia, China and Hong Kong in July and Nigeria at the start of the following month, before they begin their Premier League season on the weekend of August 18. Fàbregas returned to Barcelona for an initial fee of £29 million, with a further £4 million available depending on the player’s success.
Platini expecting Spain to triumph
Michel Platini has said that Spain and Germany are favourites to win Euro 2012. The Uefa president said that Spain, the holders, have the experience of winning tournaments, while Germany have the hunger. He added that England’s chances would be hit harder by Wayne Rooney, the forward, being suspended from the opening two matches of the group, than Roy Hodgson taking over as manager in the lead-up. The Frenchman said that Denmark, Portugal, Italy, and France were outsiders but could follow Greece who won in 2004.

Real won 3-2 with goals from Fernando Morientes, Luís Figo and Fernando Redondo, with United’s replies coming from Lee Sharpe and Teddy Sheringham.
