‘I was sad they could hurt me’

Ill-disciplined children attacking their parents is a problem that remains hidden because of shame or intimidation.

Pauline Bubb, 47, from Southampton was abused by her children, who attacked her up to 30 times a day.

She said the worst time was after school when she feared her daughter, Sapphire, nine, and son Spencer, 11, would abuse her.

Ms Bubb told The Mirror: “My legs would often be bruised.”

Ms Bubb said she would flee to her bedroom or bathroom and lock the door, cower in the corner and wait for them to calm down.

She said: “It made me sad that they could be so angry and hurt me. They bullied me.”

Last year she reached breaking point and got help by signing up to a parenting course. “I had no boundaries and had lost my parental control. They didn’t feel safe. I was trying to be a mum and a dad and a friend. I wanted them to like me. They are my world.”
