I should never have bought...

Stirling Moss explains why he regrets his purchase of a Roomba Floor Vac

The worst one was probably this automatic floor sweeper thing we bought from America — a Roomba Discovery Robotic Floor Vac of all things.

We were excited about it when we spotted it and it wasn’t too expensive. It sounded wonderfully futuristic and we had the notion we’d sit there quietly having breakfast on a Saturday morning while it cleared up around us.

It was about 1ft in diameter and about 4in high and it was quite cute whizzing around, but it just kept going wrong.

It would pick up a few bits and pieces and then drop them back all over the floor a few moments later. It drove me absolutely crazy. I suspect it was some sort of prototype and maybe they work better now, but we sent ours back. It was a complete waste of money.

Stirling Moss was a pioneering British motor racing driver and won 16 Formula One grands prix between 1955 and 1961 before a crash at Goodwood in 1962 forced him to retire
