This firm is set to act in what will be Britain’s biggest ever divorce case. It represents Natalia Potanina, the former wife of Vladimir Potanin, a Russian multibillionaire and Vladimir Putin’s “hockey buddy”.

After seven years fighting to have her divorce settlement heard in London, in May the Court of Appeal granted her permission to bring her claim for financial provision in the High Court. Potanin, who has assets of more than £21 billion, is one of the world’s wealthiest oligarchs.

HFC has represented numerous extremely wealthy individuals in other confidential divorce proceedings, mainly in London. Often they involve substantial offshore trusts with assets in the hundreds of millions to billions in several jurisdictions, including the Channel Islands, the Caribbean and the Persian Gulf.

In the case of Q, the firm represented a very wealthy father in complex Children Act proceedings, which were among the first private matters to be heard remotely by the court during the pandemic.
