February 13, 2012

Rangers give notice of intention to appoint administrators, with Duff and Phelps appointed the following day. A statement from Mr Whyte suggests the move is necessary because of a potential £50 million liability over a tax dispute with HMRC.

The assets of the business are sold to a consortium led by Charles Green.

April 11, 2013

Police carry out raids on properties in England and Scotland.

November 14, 2014

Four men detained after dawn raids in England and Scotland. An arrest warrant for Mr Whyte is issued.


November 17
Four men appear in Glasgow sheriff court on charges of fraudulent activity. David Grier, Paul Clark and David Whitehouse worked for Duff and Phelps while Gary Withey was a lawyer at Collyer Bristow who represented Mr Whyte.

September 1, 2015
Mr Whyte arrested on fraud charges in relation to the Rangers takeover.


February 5, 2016

Prosecutors drop six of 15 charges against the six men they are pursuing.
June 3
It is confirmed that charges against all other men have been dropped and Mr Whyte will be the only defendant in the case.

April 20, 2017

The trial starts at the High Court in Glasgow with Mr Whyte facing two charges, one of fraud, one relating to the Companies Act. He pleads not guilty to both.


June 6

Mr Whyte acquitted of both charges.
