How the Lions rated against Western Province

Rob Kearney 8

Absolutely superb in the blustery winds, and although he does not have the attacking capability of Lee Byrne, he is a fantastic footballer.

Tommy Bowe 8

He scored one try with a finishing burst, created another, and is fast becoming tour maestro.

Keith Earls 6

He cut back on the errors, made a couple of half-breaks but no lasting threat.

Riki Flutey 7

So unfortunate to be injured at the start of the tour, but a typically competent performance, and a cool head.

Ugo Monye 6

He must lose marks for his impetuosity in defence because he often seemed to shadow the wrong man. Test place still to be confirmed.

Stephen Jones 7

It was a horrible and blustery day in which to act as general, but he kept his nerve and composure extremely well even in the bad times.

Harry Ellis 6

Efficient and clever, although he appears to have lost for the moment that typical surging break, but he stayed on till the end and competed well.

Andrew Sheridan 7

He asserted himself frequently, but never so significantly as in the three final scrummages when the Lions sealed the match.

Matthew Rees 6

He lacks the power in his frame to do massive damage but his throwing was good considering the wind and overall, in credit. -

Phil Vickery 6

He did not have it all his own way in the scrum; possibly not his finest day and Murray seemed to improve the scrum late on. -

Nathan Hines 6

He probably needed just a little more to nail down his position in the Test team next week, although he poached a line-out or two and was prominent in the loose.

Donncha O'Callaghan 7

He was the go-to man in the line-out, was clever and accurate and this is one player whose spirit will always shine through in adversity.

Joe Worsley 7

The tree cutter had some excellent moments, and his powerful ball-carrying played a major part in the quizzical Lions' second try.

Andrew Powell 9

A vast improvement, almost a revelation, with a new cleverness in his play allied to the typical power of his running. One up for him and coaches.

Martyn Williams 7

Excellent, really clever with the ball in hand and could yet force his way in to the Test team because he looks fit and hungry.

Bench

Lots of activity here, and yet nothing was more significant than the arrival of Ewan Murray and the part that the Scot played in the final scrummages of the match. Simon Shaw also prominent in the last 10 minutes.
