“I knew I wanted colour, but as it’s an attic, with eaves, I didn’t want it to dominate the space,” says Elizabeth Lunn, 34. She has kept her flat in Blackheath, south east London, light by giving every room a pastel shade. She left the bedroom walls neutral, but painted the wooden furniture light blue to add colour, adding accessories picked up from markets across the country. It’s the first house that Elizabeth, an editorial manager for Hobbs has owned, and she says it’s the colour that makes it stand out. “I leave all the doors off the hallway wide open so when you come in, the eye immediately takes in all the different shades,” she says. She’s particularly proud of the way she has completely transformed a completely blank canvas. For example, the once-plain white loo is now wallpapered with pages from classic novels such as Dangerous Liaisons and Lady Chatterley’s Lover.” If people look very closely, they are often quite surprised by the slightly risqué nature of their content. It’s very discreet, but always a talking point,” she says.
