Justin Modray, Bestinvest
Cautious: Jupiter Distribution. “The fund has a mixture of shares and corporate bonds, with the bond element (currently 60 per cent) reducing exposure to the vagaries of the stock market.”
Aggressive: Artemis UK Special Situations. “Derek Stuart, the manager, runs the fund on a stockpicking basis and has an excellent record. He is a really active manager of his fairly concentrated portfolio of 60 to 70 stocks.”

Mark Dampier, Hargreaves Lansdown
Cautious: Artemis High Income. “A solid fund with 80 per cent in bonds and 20 per cent in shares. It won’t shoot the lights out but the manager aims to return a couple of percentage points better than cash.”
Aggressive: Old Mutual UK Select Companies (offshore). “This fund, run by Luke Kerr, is small enough, at £33 million, to fish successfully among smaller-cap stocks. Last year it returned 35 per cent, which would have put it up there with the best onshore funds, and it can be included in an Isa.”

Ryan Hughes, Chartwell Investment Management
Cautious: Gartmore Cautious Managed. “The mixture of bonds and equities will suit investors who do not want to take on too much risk. Chris Burvill, the manager, is a very safe pair of hands and has been managing money in this way for the past ten years.”
Aggressive: Framlington UK Select Opportunities. “This fund has a pretty free rein to move into whatever areas offer most potential, allowing Nigel Thomas, the manager, to display his considerable stockpicking skills.”
