Q. How can I remove the musty smell from books just unpacked after having been stored for years?

A. There is a smell because the books have become damp. You can use baking powder (bicarbonate of soda), cat litter or charcoal to absorb the odour. Place the books in an airtight container — say, a plastic tub — with the absorbing material. Leave them for a few days and the smell should have gone.
