Money matter

Almost 18,000 homeless people were housed by Scottish councils over the last year — an increase of 14 percent on the previous year. The Executive said it hoped to house all of Scotland’s homeless people by 2012.

Homes target

Andrew Goudie, who has been appointed head of the Executive’s finance department, will earn between £90,867 and £192,424 a year. The Executive said the exact figure was “closer to the bottom” of the range. Dr Goudie, who has been acting head for more than a year, is responsible for 455 staff.

Fire scare

About 1,000 politicians, journalists, construction workers and others fled the Scottish Parliament building yesterday after the fire alarm was sounded. Fire engines arrived on the scene in less than five minutes.
