Hit or miss: Dirk Kuyt

A selection of your opinions on Dirk Kuyt.

Poor World Cup, you be the judge.
Masi,

Can scoring records from Dutch league really be taken at face value? He looked very average at the World Cup.

I suspect it will be a touch of the Kezmans for Liverpool. A player that promised so much and as we know, delivered nowt. If Kezman had gone to Liverpool rather than Chelski, he could already be a Premiership legend - that’s just how it works. But Liverpool certainly need some help, as the weekend showed.
Jonny Eggweed, Luton, England

Dirk Kuyt may be a good player but he lacks true class. Maybe a player who can come off the bench and score a crucial goal but on a consistent basis, there’s nothing to say very much about him really.

Kuyt will be a good addition to Liverpool. He has done well here in Holland and is a good player. Nothing more or less. What matters to me is that we lose all (or most of the best) players to Premiership sides. In the case of Feyenoord we have lost Kalou to Chelsea and Kuyt to Liverpool. How about our league?
Frank Ruwe, Enschede, The Netherlands

He’s a quality player, but I don’t really see him as the 20-goal-a-season player that Liverpool want him to be. But if he manages to convert even half of the chances Gerrard creates, then Liverpool are in for a treat. You see, that was their problem last season: finishing.

Impossible to tell how Kuyt will do. If he plays with Bellamy there may well be goals as Bellamy has the pace Kuyt lacks. Based on his World Cup performances, he looked out of his depth but then again, so did Ronaldinho. So let’s wait and see.
Mosstin Powers, Ballisodare, Ireland

Kuyt has an excellent all round game and works very hard for his team. His goal record in Holland was superb, although that’s never guarenteed to carry over (Kezman anyone?). I’m sure he’ll fit in well, to what looks like a title-challenging Liverpool side. However for similar money, Berbatov looks like a far classier signing at Spurs.
Sean, London

Kuyt is an excellent addition to an almost complete Liverpool squad brimming with quality. What a wonderful way to round off Rafa’s astute dealings in the transfer market this summer. Kuyt will get goals and Liverpool will topple Chelski this season. Mark my words.
