Hit or miss: Bobby Zamora

We want your opinions on Bobby Zamora. Is he the genuine article or vastly overrated? What are his strengths and weaknesses? Is he on the up or on the slide? Share your insight with us and the best comments will form part of his official Times Online player profile.

It’s all too easy to have a dig at Zamora’s previous form at Tottenham and maybe looking out of his depth while he was there. But, he’s delivered on the right occasions to have the West Ham faithful happy to see his name on the team sheet. I’m fairly sure he’ll be playing 2nd fiddle to Tevez and Ashton (once he returns) but with - as it stands 4 goals in 5 games - I’m fairly sure he’d be welcomed to other Premiership outfits with open arms. So, for me there’s little doubt. HIT!!

Is not in same league as Ashton or Tevez. As West Ham progress as a club, second rate players like him will be dead wood. Needs to be sold while he’s on a bit of form.

I agree with Shane and Simon. A terrific player and the genuine article. I saw him at Brighton many times. He should have gone to a club like Liverpool rather than Spurs where I think it was David Pleat who, in temporary charge, stupidly ignored his obvious ability. Pardew needs to give him a proper run in the side rather than using him as a bit-part player. You will not just see fluky goals. I think in the right set up, he is an England player.

Bobby Zamora is a natural goalscorer. With the right kind of service, he can definitely score a lot of goals every season. West Ham have now got a really good partnership in Zamora and Tevez and I suppose that as the season progresses, these two forwards are going to get even better. Zamora is a very committed player and his approach to the game is so positive. But sadly and understandably not international class and should never make transition to a big Premiership team, at least not as a regular striker.

Most certainly a hit. Zamora’s goal return for Brighton was prolific. He then went to Tottenham but wasn’t given a proper chance. Now he is at West Ham, and for the first time since being there, albeit due to injuries to other players, he is the first choice striker. Being in the starting line-up has obviously given him confidence, and that is there for all to see by the fact that he is currently the Premiership’s top scorer.

In fact, I don’t agree that Zamora is overrated. If anything, he is underrated. He is clearly a talented player who has previously found it difficult to convince that he is made of the right stuff to succeed in the Premiership. He has also suffered by playing with in-form players like Harewood and Ashton. Ashton is injured and Harewood is still off the pace so he is just taking his chance now. In any event, let’s not jump the gun - it’s only early days and we should wait until later in the season before assessing Zamora’s real form. Just let him enjoy his current run.
