BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN

“I came out saying it’s a true love story in the old-fashioned sense, but a bit more gritty because of the sad circumstances. It’s a very moving film but not over sentimental. They wanted their cake and to eat it, which irritated me a little bit. It was shot beautifully and although it was a bit slow, Ennis’s character (Heath Ledger) was really interesting.”

“This is the third production I’ve seen, but this was very much more a traditional version. The sets were amazing — it became a kind of supernatural spooky world in the second half. Previous productions have been a bit too fast, whereas this one concentrates more on the technique and they slowed it down a bit.”

“I saw the Cirque du Soleil’s Drallion last year, and I’m always very impressed by them. I’ve seen them on DVD before but to see them live is so much better. The make-up and the costumes are amazing, I sat quite close and could make out lots of detail. The effects and the choreography are also fantastic.”
