A driver who killed a teenage cyclist then burnt his car to hide the evidence was jailed yesterday for three years and four months. Steven Mills, 29, of East Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, hit Jack Archer, 14, on July 25, 2016. At Nottingham crown court he admitted causing death by careless driving, perverting the course of justice and failing to stop.

Wrong side of the law
A former magistrate in Australia was jailed for three years for planning to sell more than £3,000 worth of crystal meth. Michael Durbin, 61, of west London, admitted possession with intent to supply at Southwark crown court. The drugs were discovered during an immigration raid.

Stoat eats rare chicks
A stoat is thought to have eaten two rare black-winged stilt chicks even though their nest had been under 24-hour guard for ten days by a team of 25 who feared that poachers might steal the eggs. The parents were seen abandoning the nest at Welney Wetland Centre in Norfolk.
