The “twin engines” of transactions and contentious work kept this Anglo-Australian firm resilient in challenging conditions, according to Justin D’Agostino, its chief executive. The firm posted record revenue and profit, with turnover up by 8 per cent.
Profit rose by 2 per cent to £388.2 million and profit per equity partner was up by 1 per cent to £1.17 million.
Highlights of the past year include advising OneWeb on its merger with Eutelsat, creating one of the world’s largest satellite operators — in one of the largest telecoms deals in Europe.
The firm advised Sinopec, the Chinese oil and gas business, on the settlement of an eight-year dispute with Repsol over North Sea oil and gas assets through a $2.1 billion transaction in which the Spanish multinational energy and petrochemical company will acquire Sinopec’s 49 per cent share in Repsol Sinopec Resources UK.

It also advised Jefferies and UBS as joint global co-ordinators and joint bookrunners on the English and US law aspects of the $550 million initial public offering of shares and warrants of Admiral Acquisition, a British Virgin Islands-organised company, and its standard listing on the London Stock Exchange.
