By dint of its specialism in health and social law, Hempsons has been at the centre of the pandemic — it acts for more than 180 organisations that are part of or linked to the NHS.

That list includes trusts and foundation trusts, commissioning bodies and NHS England’s area teams. The firm also acts for private healthcare providers and hundreds of individual general practitioners, dentists and other healthcare-related professionals.

Hempsons has been in the frontline of litigation around the contaminated blood scandal, having acted for the Haemophilia Centre Doctors’ Organisation.

The firm is not all about health. It also has a significant charities practice that includes not-for-profit organisations of all sizes. This year Hempsons also sponsored the University of Cambridge law faculty’s law, medicine and life sciences prize for the first time.
