Sir, A rhyming version of the Ten Commandments (letter, September 13), published, I believe, by Isaac Watts in 1709, was still going strong when I was in Sunday School:

This unforgettable paraphrase can be chanted — or rapped — and avoids the tricky question: “Please, teacher, what is ‘adultery’?”
