Faster aid for victims of heart attacks
Hospitals are getting life-saving drugs to heart attack victims more quickly, an audit by the Royal College of Physicians shows.
In the first three months of the year, 77.3 per cent of hospitals gave clot-busting drugs within 30 minutes of a patient’s arrival, compared with 47.8 per cent last year. The government target was 75 per cent. Patients treated within 60 minutes of their first call for help numbered 49 per cent, exceeding the target of 48 per cent.
For the first time, the report included Welsh hospitals. Four achieved the 30-minute target and eight more were within 25 per cent of the goal.

Flights too cheap
Flights to Europe should cost between £1 and £5 more if the Government is to meet its pollution targets, according to Sir Jonathan Porritt, the Chairman of the Sustainable Development Commission. The cost of long-haul flights should rise by about £50. “This cannot be described as sustainable transport,” he said.
