The school hall is filled with flashing coloured lights, there’s a DJ in a dodgy waistcoat setting up his decks and your PE teacher is busy wrapping silver tinsel around her head. It must be the school Christmas disco! Here’s how to make the most of your big night out.
How to strut your stuff by Flawless, of Britain’s Got Talent
Practise your moves in front of a mirror. By doing this, you’ll know exactly what you look like and feel more confident.
Create your own style. Start by making two simple steps, moving right to left, and as you become more confident increase this to a bigger routine with your arms.
Make eye contact with other people on the dancefloor to show you’re having fun and enjoying the party — don’t look down. Always smile when you’re dancing. It shows that you have bags of confidence, and gives the impression that you know what you’re doing!

What to do when your parents start dancing, by Chloe Lambert
At any school Christmas disco, there’s always a serious risk that grown-ups, including teachers, teaching assistants, parents and grandparents, will take to the floor.
In this instance, you have three options.
Get up there and show them how it’s done, so that they realise that they are embarrassing themselves. This could backfire, however, and see you doing the cha cha cha with the caretaker.

Or you could ask the DJ to play some drum ‘n’ bass or thrash metal. They won’t stand it for long.
Or whisper to your head teacher that she’s spent the evening with her skirt tucked into her pants and a piece of spinach in her teeth. She’ll soon decide it’s time to shut the disco. Hey, she may even close down the school!

Girls
You don’t have to wear a dress, but it’s nice to put on a few sequins to get you in the disco mood! We love this skirt from New Look Teens (£16, newlook.co.uk). Wear it with a logo T-shirt, spotty tights and Converse trainers for a cool, casual look.

Boys
Leave all that sparkly party stuff to the girls.A checked shirt, such as this one from Joe Bloggs (£13, joebloggsclothing.co.uk) is a good way to make an effort without looking like you’ve tried too hard. Team it with your favourite jeans and a (clean) pair of trainers.
