Harper Macleod’s highlights over the past year include the advice given by a multidisciplinary team across the firm for the UK-wide retail fashion chain M&Co on a large and complex restructuring exercise. It involved saving more than 2,200 jobs and more than 200 stores, as well as the rescue of the Scotland-based company’s pension scheme. The firm was then instructed on a subsequent refinance of the company’s stock facilities in early 2021.
Harper Macleod’s energy and natural resources and rural economy teams are leading advisers on renewable energy projects and on the best management of Scotland’s natural capital. Its corporate team advised Ardersier Port Limited on the purchase of a dormant fabrication yard to create a hub for the UK’s plans to switch to green energy.
The firm’s public law specialists also advised the anti-corruption lobby group Avaaz when it successfully sought permission in the Court of Session for a judicial review of the Scottish government’s decision not to investigate the funding for Donald Trump’s golf courses.
