Hamster survives postal delivery

A hamster survived after being sent in the post. Patrick von Heimendahl, a vet in Cambridge, was stunned when a postman, on the advice of police, delivered the rodent in a sealed A5 envelope sent first class and labelled “Do Not Bend”.

The hamster, named Postie, is female, thought to be a year old and appears to be very tame. Mr von Heimendahl said that the postman had collected the letter from a post box at Market Square and thought the animal was a rat.
