Hall Pass

Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis are given a week off their marriages to lust after younger women in this fatuous flick

Hall Pass is a promising contender for worst movie of the year, with its win-win mix of fatuous sexism, copious faecal matter and flaccid humour. Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis are two middle-aged buddies who lust so sweatily after younger women that their exasperated wives give them a “hall pass” — ie, a week off marriage. For the husbands, this turns out to be more of a bathroom pass, featuring various bodily fluids, while the wives have a marvellous time on Cape Cod. The only funny moment in the film is a cameo by our own Stephen Merchant. And why does Wilson enunciate all the time as though the audience were hard of hearing — or just stupid?
