Greek Pete

A fly-on-the-bedroom-wall tale of a London-based gay male escort, Andrew Haigh's film is a semi-improvised fiction masquerading as a documentary - one that doesn't ask its subject many questions. We see the pragmatic, sweet-natured Greek Pete (Peter Pittaros) going about his business and spending his free time with friends and colleagues, but not his family, who have disowned him, and it all looks plausible enough (the film's actors were chosen for their first-hand knowledge of the sex industry). But does Pete have any regrets? Why did he decide that prostitution was the only way he could realise his dream of making lots of money? We never find out. If the film truly were a documentary, we would at least know we were getting a picture of real life, albeit a not very enlightening one. Instead, we're stuck with an undramatic drama.
