Greek farce as player is dropped from stretcher

Suffered an injury in a football match? Do not even think about calling out these stretcher bearers. Leonardo Koutris, of Ergotelis, the Greek second division side, must have wondered what he had done to deserve the most hapless twosome since Laurel and Hardy when he was removed from the pitch during the match against AE Larissa.

His catalogue of indignities — the very opposite of being handled with care — began when he was roughly manhandled onto a stretcher. Once there, he might have thought he was safe, but he would have been wrong. Instead, as the stretcher bearers started rushing from the pitch, they stumbled and dropped him. And then did the same again. In between times, one of the men fell onto the helpless player.

Just in case that was not enough suffering for one match, Koutris was subsequently dumped onto the side of the pitch and given a quick slap to the knee for, well, no apparent reason at all.

The Greek farce did not end well after that, either. Ergotelis, who had been leading when Koutris went off, lost 2-1.
