Gowling’s work over the past year has been at the cutting edge of the response to the pandemic, advising on three key projects related to Covid-19 vaccines. It advised Precision NanoSystems on its agreement with Can Sino Biologics to co-develop an mRNA vaccine against coronavirus. The firm worked with AstraZeneca on its collaboration agreement for the development and distribution of the University of Oxford’s recombinant adenovirus vaccine. And its life sciences team was instructed by BioNTech on intellectual property matters linked to the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine — the first to receive approval, in December 2020.

Gowling has also been busy advising the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. Its work has included providing intellectual property advice in relation to its mascot, Perry the Bull.

Other standout deals include advising the video-game maker Codemasters on its £945 million acquisition by Codex Games, a subsidiary of the US game giant Electronic Arts, and Aldgate Developments on the sale of BT’s London headquarters for over €500 million.
