“Good things don’t end with ’eum’ ”

Forget museums: the culturally challenged Homer would prefer a brewery tour with free samples

When confronted with a day trip to a museum, Homer on one occasion observed: “Good things don’t end with ‘eum’, they end with ‘mania’ or ‘teria’.”

This is a fun-lovin’ guy who would sell his soul for an extra donut, free beer, or anything a catchy advertising slogan suggests to him. He might not always be able to remember the name of “the baby”, but he’s a regular guy who believes in good old-fashioned family entertainment, so long as there’s a bar at the end of it. As a patriot of his country, he likes to go native on his travels, so banqueting like a king at the Joust festival would be right up his street. For dads like Homer, holidays are a chance to have fun like a kid again. As he once told Marge: “I used to rock’n’ roll all night and party every day, then it was every other day, now I’m lucky if I can find half an hour a week to get funky. I’ve gotta get out of this rut, and back into the groove!”
