Good Samaritan dies after going to aid of unconscious youth in street

A father who was attacked as he tried to help an unconscious youth in the street has died after being in a coma for a month.

Nick Baty, 48, a first aider, was providing medical assistance when he was stamped on and kicked outside a gym in Brackla, Bridgend, South Wales.

His daughter Katy, 12, said yesterday: “Things like this just ruin families. This could have happened to anyone. It’s just shocking. My dad has been so brave all his life and he always tries to help people. I just want everyone to know how proud I am of him. He has always been amazing.”

Her mother, Lyn, 47, who lived apart from Mr Baty, said: “Katy can’t understand why anyone would attack her dad when he was just trying to help.”

Mr Baty’s family decided to allow him to die after being told by doctors at the Princess of Wales hospital in Bridgend that he would never recover from the coma.
