Ghislaine Maxwell’s husband may be in a new relationship, according to reports, as the British socialite’s team prepares to present her defence in her trial for allegedly assisting Jeffrey Epstein in the sex-trafficking of young girls.

Maxwell, 59, is said to have secretly married Scott Borgerson, a technology entrepreneur, in 2016. Court papers supporting her bail application last year showed that she transferred all her assets to a trust controlled by him.

However Borgerson has not been seen during the opening two weeks of Maxwell’s trial in New York as the prosecution made its case supported by four women who accuse Maxwell of grooming them to take part in sexual abuse by Epstein. Maxwell’s defence lawyers will make their arguments from Thursday after a three-day break for the jury which must decide on six charges that could land her a prison sentence of up to 80 years.

A central focus of the trial so far has been the nature of Maxwell’s relationship with Epstein, whose death in his jail cell aged 66 in 2019 was ruled suicide by the New York coroner.

Amid questions about the exact status of Borgerson’s relationship with Maxwell, he is now said to be dating Kris McGinn, a mother of two who is a local journalist in Manchester-by-the-Sea, a small beach town in Massachusetts, according to the Daily Mail.

Maxwell lived with Borgerson in his seven-bedroom seafront property in the town for around a year, leaving in December 2019 when she bought her secluded home, Tucked away, a two-hour drive away in Bradford, New Hampshire. She was arrested there in an early-morning raid in July last year.

Borgerson, the 44-year-old former chief executive of a data analytics company based in Boston declined to comment, as did McGinn who works for the Manchester Cricket newspaper and was recently divorced from her husband.

Borgerson is believed to have met Maxwell more than eight years ago through events linked to their mutual interest in ocean preservation while the entrepreneur was still married to his previous wife. His divorce was finalised in December 2015.

In the unsuccessful bail application for Maxwell last year Borgerson said in a letter to the court: “I have never witnessed anything close to inappropriate with Ghislaine. The Ghislaine I know is a wonderful and loving person. I believe Ghislaine had nothing to do with Epstein’s crimes.”
