Getty’s boss puts himself in the picture

It owns some of the world’s most famous photographs, including this of Muhammad Ali’s knockout of Sonny Liston in 1965, but yesterday the main action at Getty Images was off-camera. Jonathan Klein revealed that he would take over as chairman of the world’s largest and most famous photographic library once a new chief executive had been found to replace him.

Mr Klein will replace Mark Getty as chairman. The exit of Mr Getty, who founded the business with Mr Klein in London, means that it will be the first time that a member of the billionaire family that lent its name to the company will not be running it. Getty Images is owned by Carlyle, the private equity group, which acquired it in 2012.
