Get ready to Ceroc

During the Second World War the American GIs took the jitterbug to France, where local dancers added their sophistication to the moves giving it a more slinky and Latin feel. They referred to it as ‘C’est le Roc’.

The French still dance their version of the dance in the Bar Caverns in the Latin Quarter of Paris. Its popularity persuaded a Frenchman, James Cronin, to develop the dance for a modern audience calling it Ceroc. Cronin put together a core of 500 moves that could be danced to not just old style music but also the latest chart music.

The moves devised by Cronin, and taught as Ceroc, are described as a combination of Salsa & Swing dancing, without the complicated footwork making it easy for newcomers to pick up. It is no surprise that currently it’s the fastest growing dance movement in its field with over 140 classes run per week across over 120 venues in the UK.

Now Times Online, in association with Carte Noire, is offering readers a chance to experience this fantastic dance with a complimentary lesson and free membership at any Ceroc venue. To take part, download a voucher and present at your chosen Ceroc venue.

Please note that there are no more seats available for the Mary Ward House event on the Tuesday 21 March.
