Sir, Peter Mullen (Thunderer, February 15) says that Arthur Miller shared “a complete lack of humour” with George Bernard Shaw.
True, I can’t think of any instances of Shaw getting a laugh by having someone’s trousers fall down, but his coruscating wit can still leave an audience laughing helplessly, as was demonstrated at a recent production of Major Barbara (by no means the funniest of his plays) at the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester.
Yours faithfully,
