Walk the line

There will be a guided walk of Waterperry Gardens, near Wheatley, in Oxfordshire, on Thursday at 2.30pm, followed by high tea. The route will include the 200ft herbaceous border. Jean Taylor, the expert leading the visit, will also give tips on staking and supporting your perennials. Tickets are £10 and must be booked in advance. Books in bloom

This year's Festival of Flowers at St Michael's Church, in Woodham Walter, Essex, runs from Friday to July 16. It includes arrangements on a bookish theme by an RHS Chelsea Flower Show gold-medal-winning team. There will also be an art exhibition in the village hall and a fête on Sunday. School's out for summer

On Saturday, the Royal Horticultural Society gardens at Wisley, Surrey, Harlow Carr, North Yorkshire, Hyde Hall, Essex, and Rosemoor, Devon, will host garden parties to launch the RHS Garden Explorers' Club, in time for the school holidays. Membership, which costs £68 for two adults and up to four children, includes the Garden Explorers' handbook, seeds and a newsletter, as well as the usual RHS membership benefits.
