Gadget of the week: Powerstrap £40

Power bangle for tired phones

Batman's utility belt may be stuffed with batarangs and grappling hooks, but if he ever found his mobile phone battery going flat, the Caped Crusader would be in trouble. That's not a problem for owners of the Powerstrap. This rechargeable battery pack fits around your wrist

and comes supplied with 10 adaptors, varied enough to feed juice to any iPod and most mobiles, not to mention handheld games consoles and digital cameras.

The Powerstrap takes a lengthy five hours to charge fully, but after that its six battery cells will be good enough to supply three hours' talk time to a phone, play an extra eight hours of music on a typical MP3 player or recharge a digital camera to provide as many as 1,000 additional shots (as long as you're sparing with the flash).

An array of LEDs keeps you informed of the remaining battery life. You'll need to keep the device you want to run attached to the Powerstrap by an umbilical - it will not actually recharge it - but that's a small price to pay for an emergency top-up.

The Powerstrap weighs just 100g but is a little on the chunky side, giving you the appearance of an electronically tagged offender on parole. Buying the device in colours other than black - yellow, green, blue, red and white are also available - might offset the effect. The adaptors are not housed in the unit, so you'll need to carry any of the ones you might need separately.
