Dirk Kuyt, the Liverpool striker, is confident the future of the club is in good hands with their new owner.

The Holland player scored a hat-trick in Sunday’s 3-1 win over Manchester United, the Barclays Premier League leaders, which took the club to sixth place in the table.

Luiz Suarez, the Uruguay forward who signed for Liverpool in January, was instrumental in the win helping to set up Kuyt’s goals.

And the match also marked the first Liverpool appearance of Andy Carroll, who joined Anfield from Newcastle for a club-record fee, with the England striker coming on as a substitute in the 74th minute.

Kuyt believes that the acquisition of the duo for more than £58 million on the final day of the winter transfer window signals the intention of NESV Sports, which bought the club last year, to put recent problems at Merseyside behind them.

“The owners have already shown with the impression they have made by buying Suarez and Carroll that they want to do things in a positive way. We need to keep going like this,” the 30-year-old said.

The No 18 added that things have been looking up for the club since the return of Kenny Dalglish, who replaced Roy Hodgson as manager in January, and said that he expects the team to go from strength to strength next season.

“The first thing the manager told us when he arrived here is that we have a lot of quality, and hopefully with the players that have come in January and the new players that will come in the summer, we can compete.

“With Andy also coming on for his first couple of minutes, the future looks promising for Liverpool. The manager has a lot of options up front now.”

After a poor start to the season under Hodgson, the club have won or drawn their past six home games and have given themselves a chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

“We want to win every game, we want to go on a run,” he said. “The aim for us is consistency. We have shown that we can compete with the best, but competing with the best is not enough to win things.

“We have beaten United, we have beaten Chelsea twice but we also want to beat the other teams as well. You need to win, with all respect, against the West Hams and the Wolves and the Blackpools.

“Everyone is working really hard every day to go forward, and hopefully we can show that West Ham last week was a mistake. That will be our motivation for the coming games.”

Liverpool’s next fixture is against Braga in the last-16 of the Europa League on Thursday before their next Premier League match away to Sunderland on March 20.
