Fuming pedestrian filmed pushing cyclist into road

Police have released footage of an angry pedestrian chasing a female cyclist and shoving her off her bicycle.

The video, shot from the cyclist’s helmet camera, shows the furious man shouting and swearing at the woman, who was in her early 40s, after she passed in front of him as he tried to cross the road.

The man, dressed in dark clothing and thought to be in his 40s, is then seen chasing the cyclist and catching her as she approaches a junction. He shouts at her then pushes her down into oncoming traffic, invoking a yelp.

Before he shoves her to the ground, the man can be heard swearing at the woman, and asks: “You want to put your finger up at me, you mug?”

Police said the cyclist was “very upset” after the attack but did not require medical treatment, having managed to move out of the way of traffic and then to a safe position at the side of the road.

The incident happened in Sidney Street, off Whitechapel Road, at about 6pm on Friday, May 1.

Anyone who can identify the man is asked to call police on 101, quoting images 180410 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Helmet cameras have long been popular among cyclists, and increasingly the videos are finding their way online, either by the police or being posted on YouTube.

Cars are also being fitted with dash-cams as motorists and cyclists seek to protect themselves in terms of safety and potential insurance claims.
