Fugitive reality show brings web TV closer

THE migration of television programmes to the internet has moved a step closer after the creator of The Apprentice unveiled a new £6 million reality show to be screened exclusively by Yahoo!, the internet service provider.

The Runner will be a webonly show in which participants attempt to catch an anonymous “fugitive” who is criss-crossing the United States.

There will be a $1 million (£560,000) prize for anyone who can prove that they have caught the individual.

The webcasts will be a cross between a daily show and an online game. Players will view regularly updated five-minute video clips through Yahoo!’s website and try to solve online puzzles about the fugitive’s real-world location.

The game is the brainchild of Mark Burnett, a British-born Falklands veteran, who has built a £300 million empire from masterminding reality shows such as Survivor.
